AAUW opporunities

FMF just got a hot tip on some great opportunities from our friends at AAUW and wanted to pass it on to you. We hope that these leadership projects spark your imaginations and get you revved up to jump on board!

*AAUW Campus Action Projects (CAP) - Campus Action Projects enable student leaders and campus faculty to design and implement effective programs that enhance campus offerings, promote leadership, and improve academic and career outcomes. 2009-10 applications are available with a submission deadline of October 16, 2009.

*National Student Advisory Council (SAC) - SAC student leaders give AAUW advice and implementation strategies on programming of interest for young women and girls, build relationships with local AAUW branches, lead campus events that promote women’s equity, and help plan and implement NCCWSL activities. 2009-10 applications are available with a submission deadline of September 30, 2009.

*Campaign College - Campaign College is the only program in the country that trains college women to run for student government. Last spring, AAUW conducted two successful pilot trainings in partnership with the American University Women & Politics Institute and Running Start. Applications are available with a submission deadline of October 16, 2009.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes (...on the blog)

As our beloved blog is growing/developing/expanding, we at the FMF Campus team will be tweaking the visual aspects of said blog.  If you see something on here that you like, let us know!  If a certain font, color, layout makes you scream, "NOOOOOOO!!"  please, let us know that too!  And most definitely, if there is something critical missing, we want to know!

Additionally, we are always looking for guest bloggers!  And if you've got a video, a news article, artwork, a song, a photo, poetry, or website we should feature, email us at campusteam@feminist.org!  We want this to be YOUR blog, too.  So, tell us what you want to see!

Mission Impossible: Completed!

Typically, when we think of the conservative Deep South, we think of untapped fertile ground for a feminist movement, despite its long history of activism and grassroots organizing. However, through our travel, Emily and I have found that the feminist forces are alive and well! We've trailed the not-so-liberal terrains of Alabama and Georgia to meet with some extraordinary activists, community members, and vibrant students who are committed to going against the grain to see that social justice is achieved everywhere.

Coincidentally, as we visited the home states of Martin Luther King Jr. during the anniversary of his death, we were reminded of the significance of recommitting ourselves to building the "beloved community". That was our main objective as we sat down with University of Georgia's Women's Studies Student Organization, Georgia State University's Progressive Student Alliance, Spelman College Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance (FMLA), Emory University's Feminist in Action, Agnes Scott's Affinity, University of Montevallo FMLA,University of Alabama's women's studies graduate students and faculty, and Stillman College's administration! WHOA! That was a long list, but truly evident of just a preview of the feminist support down bottom.
These student groups have been planning a wide range of initiatives from reviving their campus group to challenging complacency around sexual and gender identity and race to peace and anti-war organizing, and so much more!
We had a grand ol' time and would love to return to visit with other southern schools, so if your a feminist student group, faculty or community member that's interested in connecting with our national feminist network, please contact us at campusteam@feminist.org.
