Congresswoman Holmes Norton: "I will not yield, sir!"

Two years ago today, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (DC) took to the floor of the House of Representatives to tackle the issue of DC voting rights.

When interrupted and asked to yield the floor by Rep. David Dreier (CA-26), the Congresswoman angrily replied, "I will not yield sir.  The District of Columbia has spent [then] 206 years yielding to the people who would deny us the vote.  I yield you no ground!"

The Feminist Majority Foundation fully supports DC voting rights and commends Congresswoman Holmes Norton's efforts as an advocate for the most basic of civil rights: Congressional representation.
