Happy Birthday, Frida Kahlo!

Today is the birthday of Frida Kahlo, feminist, surrealist artist, and socialist feminist icon. She was born in Mexico on July 6, 1907. A polio survivor, Kahlo understood the many difficulties that people with disabilities face today and used art as a catharsis of sorts.

Many of Kahlo's works are self portraits and many of her paintings contain Mexican, Christian, and Jewish symbols.

Kahlo was an amazing artist, feminist, and is also regarded by many as a queer icon. Check out her work sometime, you won't regret it.

Thank you for this post but people with disabilities prefer to be called "people with disabilities", not "the disabled".

Thanks!
