According to US researchers, 70% of working-age (or 63.8 million) women have no health insurance, are underinsured, or are in debt due to medical bills. Comparatively, 59% of working-age (or 51.9 million) men are in similar situations. And on top of it all, the research is from a 2007 survey and very likely underestimates the economic troubles of the current recession.
While the numbers are unacceptably high in both categories, what could possibly account for the 11% difference? Factor in the wage gap and caregiving sacrifices alone, and it's not hard to see where the disparity comes in.
