My name is Dena and I will be interning with Feminist Campus this summer. Just to tell you a little more about myself, I will be a junior at Colgate University this upcoming fall. On campus I have chaired and co-chaired various feminist organisations (i.e. SORT, Sisters of the Round Table, a women of colour organisation, the Black Student Union, the Colgate ADVOCATES-- a queer advocacy organisation) as well as queer advocacy organisations. This past year I've been working closely with my campus' administration to revamp our sexual assault policy. I helped to organise a sexual assault speakout with a fellow student, my friend and sexual assault survivor which was a great success. In addition, I co-led the Take Back the Night march on my campus and was this year's director for the Vagina Monologues.
In addition to these activities, I am a social networking nerd-- I love Twitter and Digg. I am a blogger for AbortionGang, a blog of young feminists passionate about reproductive rights among other things, often do community postings for Feministing, and am a Ms. Guerrilla Social Media Activist, a new initiative that has been launched by Ms. to increase the visibility of feminist issues and to raise awareness of feminist issues throughout the country.
At Feminist Campus I look forward to learning about new innovative ways to increase support of feminist organisations on college campuses and decrease apathy among student populations. I'm so excited and can't wait to see the awesomely, fabulous work that will be done!
